The Anarres logo has followed me for a long time.
It was originally created for Anarres V.T.O.L. Rec’n’Org, an anarchist collective and underground record label I co-founded in Zurich. The collective took its name from Anarres, the anarchist society imagined by Ursula K. Le Guin in The Dispossessed, a book whose ideas had a lasting influence on us.
The logo itself was created by my friend Viola Zimmermann. What began as the symbol of a small collective gradually became something much more personal to me.
In 1996, my girlfriend at the time gave me a tattoo certificate for my birthday. I could choose anything I wanted. I chose the Anarres logo without hesitation.
It remains the only tattoo I have.
Over the years, the collective became part of the past, but the symbol stayed with me. It carries memories of Zurich, friendships, ideas, experimentation and a period of my life that helped shape the way I see and create things today.
Eventually, I began using it as my personal symbol.
So its presence on this website is not really about a logo.
It is a small piece of continuity.
