| BlurCity was originally
conceived as a new kind of city sized 'Product
Distribution Center',
designed and constructed
during a consumer
and real estate boom to
accommodate a rapidly expanding market
on a relatively cheap land site, thus
allowing for projected economic
expansion. However, a stock market crash and credit induced currency revaluation combined to cause an acute and far reaching depression as the project was being completed. The new PDC was redundant as a consumer retail site and redesignated mostly for cheap accommodation for the lower end of a relentlessly expanding population. The PDC also incorporated a new fully patented concept in architecture called 'Pixelation', a hyper sensitive vibrationally holographic surface which provided a facade whose appearance could be designated by a setting on a central computer. The computer itself was one of the most advanced and powerful of its day and could maintain a high resolution elaborately coloured image of a whole city and blend in design alterations as fast as programmable. After the downturn in the economic climate the company which was liable for the whole project rechannelled most of the computers capacity to the far more lucrative business of virtual party games and most of the new pixeletants could only afford low resolution digi-trash graphics. Some wealthier freaks and arty types could afford to upgrade their property by buying into pixel allocation and also a few scattered businesses which prospered tentatively in the new environment. Mostly, though, a walk through BlurCity was like being in a psychotic arcade game. |
